Author Description John Bryden is a political economist, currently Research Professor at the Norwegian Institute for Bioeconomy Research in Oslo and Emeritus Professor of Human Geography at the University of Aberdeen. He held the Chair of Human Geography at Aberdeen University between 1995 and 2004, when he was also co-Director of the Arkleton Institute for Rural Development Research.<br /><br />Bryden's publications include <i>Tourism and Development</i> (1973); <i>Agrarian Change in the Scottish Highlands</i> (1976); <i>Towards Sustainable Rural Communities</i> (1994); <i>A New Approach to Rural Development in Europe</i> (2004). He has also written many book chapters and journal articles on economic development, Scottish dependency, agrarian change, land reform, regional and rural policies, academic freedom, and on innovation in rural regions.
