Some of his early fiction appeared under the house name <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/6519034.King_Lang" title="King Lang" rel="nofollow noopener">King Lang</a> (with <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/search/search?q=John%20W.%20Jennison" title="John W. Jennison" rel="nofollow noopener">John W. Jennison</a> and <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/6869883.E_C__Tubb" title="E.C. Tubb" rel="nofollow noopener">E.C. Tubb</a>). He later turned to editing. He was instrumental in the creation of the Science Fiction Foundation in 1972.
